 OnColor™ BIO Colorants 
Color Concentrates for Biodegradable Polymers 

The increase in use of biodegradable resins offers a new generation of materials, with new properties compared with traditional plastics.  The main advantage of these materials is that they can be organically recycled through composting.  Different biodegradable resins are commercially available, including starch, PLA , PHA, PHBV, PBS, PBAT and blends of these different polymer families.

PolyOne has developed a range of color concentrate products specific for use with these biodegradable resins.  OnColor™ BIO colorants enable processors and product designers to deliver sustainable products with low environmental impact.

Key Characteristics

The colorant ingredients in OnColor BIO color concentrates were carefully chosen to meet industry requirements and legislation, while offering a full pallet of color choices.  Custom shades are available upon request.

LEGISLATION

  • Based on sustainable raw materials, these color concentrates meet several global industry and composting standards, including EN 13432 (European Union), ASTM D6400 (USA), BPS GREENPLA (Japan) and DIN CERTCO (Germany).

APPLICATION

  • Each of these color concentrates are based on biopolymer carriers and can be used at normal loadings and dosed in the standard way.
  • OnColor BIO colorants can be processed by injection, extrusion and blow molding processes and  are used in a wide variety of end-use applications.
  • PolyOne also offers OnColor™ Smartbatch™ BIO concentrates, which combine OnColor BIO colorants and OnCap BIO additives into a single masterbatch.
